Tailored CIP solution for tank with agitator

Documented through spray simulation before the solution was produced 

How do you ensure that a CIP solution reaches all critical areas in a tank – including those that standard equipment rarely reaches? At a manufacturer in the food industry did they have a tank with an agitator, where was the challenge clear: the existing CIP solution worked in most places, but still left risk zones – undersides of paddle stirrer, backsides and areas close to welds.

Together we found the way to a solution that was documented before it was ever put into production.

The customer's existing CIP solution worked satisfactorily in most places in the tank, but a few critical zones were not reached optimally – including the undersides of agitator blades, backsides and areas close to welds. 

These types of zones can be difficult to reach with standard CIP nozzles, and inadequate cleaning here increases the risk of product residues. The challenge was therefore not just to find a better nozzle, but to understand the entire tank geometry and design a solution targeted precisely at those areas where standard setups typically fall short. 

THE SOLUTION

Based on, among other things, the customer's 3D models and STEP files, we analysed where cleaning needed to be improved. Through jet studies and spray simulations, we assessed the spray pattern, placement and angles before the solution was produced – in close dialogue with both the customer and their designers. 

 

  • Analysis of the entire tank geometry – not just the existing washing equipment 
  • Jet studies and spray simulation for the assessment of spray pattern, positioning and angles 
  • Solution developed in collaboration with the customer's designers, tailored to tank, process and hygiene requirements 
  • Selection of LPA-A pop-up wash valves with a spray pattern tailored to the specific geometry of the tank 
  • Documentation via simulation, before the solution was implemented

For the customer, it provided a solution with:

  • Targeted cleaning of previously challenged hygiene areas
  • Documentation via simulation, before the solution was implemented
  • A CIP solution tailored to the specific process rather than a standard setup

The project is a good example of why CIP should rarely be thought of as "one size fits all". When we know the customer's process, product, and construction, we can design a solution that can both be documented and validated before it becomes part of production.
