Mixers

At Alflow, we sell some of the market’s best mixers and agitators for both sanitary and industrial applications. See our wide range of mixers from leading manufacturers on this page.

What are mixers?

Our mixers and agitators offer a complete solution for mixing throughout the process line and are designed for a wide range of mixing applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry as well as the food industry. Mixers and agitators are used for mixing and flow separation of liquids, gases or solids as well as mixing light and viscous liquids, resuspension of settled solids and dissolution of powders.

Find the right mixers for your application

At Alflow, we have several types of mixers for a wide range of processes in the pharmaceutical, chemical, process and food industries, among others:

  • Magnetic-coupled mixers
  • In-line mixers
  • Agitators
  • Water/steam mixers

The different types of mixers and agitators can be used in respectively upstream, process, downstream and filling applications. Below we have mentioned some of the places where you can use our mixers and agitators:

  • Media preparation
  • Purification
  • Filtration
  • Chromatography
  • Centrifugation
  • Fermentation
  • Solid suspension
  • Gas dispersion
  • High-shear mixing
  • Viscous mixing
  • And more

The static mixers and in-line models are typically called mixers, and the rotary models for mounting in tanks are typically called agitators. The static mixers consist of a tube with a design on the inside that ensures a turbulent flow. This helps make the liquid pumped through the mixer more homogeneous. A static mixer is driven solely by the liquid pressure supplied by a pump or other flow equipment. There will always be a pressure drop across the mixer, as you use some of the pressure to change the internal speed. The static mixer is very good for mixing liquids that are somewhat similar to each other. If you have liquids where one is water and the other is an oil product, typically more energy must be used to create a stable mixing. Our In-line mixers with rotating head allow even more energy to be supplied directly from the rotating mixer head that is driven by an electric motor. This means that even liquids that are difficult to mix together can achieve a stable state and an emulsion can be created. This type of mixer also has a certain homogenizing effect. For tanks, we have different types of mixers. For places where high demands are placed on a clean-friendly design, we have a magnetically connected agitator from Millipore. It differs in that there is no passage in the tank wall, as the energy from the external drive unit is transferred via magnetism to the internal impeller. This is a very safe solution that is particularly used in the pharmaceutical industry. Here you do not need to take into account leakage from the agitator, as the tank plate where the agitator is mounted is to be considered part of the tank wall. We have different types of impellers depending on the task to be carried out. It’s everything from processes where the liquid just needs to be kept in motion, to mixing powder, or requiring high-shear to make lighter emulsions.

In larger tanks or in tanks where vigorous stirring is required, we typically use a top-mounted agitator. With this type of mixer, we can make sure that the liquid is moving, even if it is a tall tank. We have the option of mounting impellers of different types and diameters on the shaft that goes down into the tank. We often use these stirrers in connection with fermentation. Here we need a large dispersion of oxygen at the bottom of the tank. This is done with a specially designed impeller that utilizes the rotation to create small bubbles. And to make sure that the entire tank is used for the process, we use a different type of impeller to create the right rotation of the liquid inside the tank. In connection with dimensioning our top-mounted agitators, we also have the option of doing CFD (computer simulations) of the process, so that we ensure you an optimal solution.
