How a Sanitary Pulsation Dampener Works
The Equilibar pulsation damper is installed downstream of a positive displacement pump, or wherever pressure pulsation is a problem. It uses pneumatics to adjust its internal pressure in response to the force and direction of each individual pump pulsation against the diaphragms, thereby reducing the pulsation amplitude.
The double-sided dampening is air-loaded on the non-wetted side of each diaphragm via a common line on the side of the pulsation damper (PD). Excess air is discharged through the vent ports on each cover. See the figure to the right.
The system requires a gas pressure regulator to set the pressure of the damper supply gas. To achieve maximum damping, the supply pressure must be slightly higher than the average process pressure and fine-tuned for each individual application. The supply pressure should not exceed 150 psig (10 bar[g]).
