Single-use filter station customised to the customer's process

More capacity without more complexity

The customer uses single-use filter sets in their production and needed to expand the process from two to four parallel filter sets.

This placed demands not only on the process itself, but also on the practical handling. When multiple filters, bags and hoses have to be handled at the same time, it becomes crucial that every component has its place and that operators can quickly mount and replace the filter sets.

Together with our supplier ALLpaQ, we therefore developed a filter station specifically around the single-use kit that the customer already uses.

The customer wanted to move from two to four parallel filter sets without making the daily operation any more complex for the operators.

With multiple bags, filters, and hoses in the same process, there was a risk of a confusing setup where components hung loosely, hoses crossed each other, and assembly and disassembly became unnecessarily time-consuming.

A standard filter holder was therefore not the optimal solution. The station needed to be adapted to the specific geometry and component layout of the filter set, while also being mobile, easy to clean and straightforward to work with in daily production.

The task was therefore not simply to find a holder for the filters, but to create a complete workstation around the customer's existing single-use solution.

THE SOLUTION

To base our work on the actual process, we received a complete filter kit from the customer. Using a sample of the customer's existing filter kit as a starting point, we teamed up with our supplier ALLpaQ to develop a station specifically for the existing solution.

That way, the design could be based on the actual placement of the filters, bags and hoses – rather than the customer having to adapt their setup to a standard stand.

The station is designed with space for two complete filter kits with corresponding 5-litre bags on each side. This allows four filter sets to be handled together at a single station.

The core of the solution is the interaction between the single-use system and the reusable equipment around it. The customer can continue using the existing filter kit, while the physical handling has been developed specifically for their process.

DESIGN FOCUS POINTS

Among other things, the design emphasised:

  • Simple assembly: Dedicated holders and simple mounting points make it quick to fit and replace the filter sets.
  • Controlled hose routing: Integrated hose hooks help keep hoses organised and separated around the station.
  • Quick placement of the components: Filters, bags and other parts have defined locations, so the setup can be organised in the same way from process to process.
  • Operator-friendly design: An integrated worktop provides space for notes and documentation whilst you work, for example.
  • Easy-to-clean design: Smooth and accessible surfaces make the station easy to clean.
  • Mobility: Four castors with brakes make it possible to move and position the station as required.

THE RESULT

The custom-built filter station makes it possible to handle four filter sets in parallel on a single, unified station rather than the previous setup with two.

At the same time, all central components have been given a fixed position. This provides operators with a more manageable setup and makes it simpler to mount, organise and replace the filter sets in daily production.

For the customer, the solution means, among other things:

  • Capability to handle four parallel filter sets on one station
  • A more structured setup with fixed locations for filters, bags and hoses
  • Faster and simpler installation and replacement of single-use kits
  • A mobile and easy-to-clean workstation
  • A solution developed for the existing filter set rather than a standard setup

The solution thus supports the customer's desired capacity expansion without compromising on the practical handling surrounding the process.
