Diaphragm valves

Alflow sells a wide range of diaphragm valves for applications in the chemical, process, pharmaceutical and food industries. We have, among other things, sampling valves, tank-bottom valves and valves for complicated process systems. Explore our various diaphragm valves on the site.

Diaphragm valves: Precise regulation, control and shut-off

Diaphragm valves are so-called open/close valves – also called shut-off valves or isolation valves – and are used to open and close the flow in pipe systems.

Diaphragm valves are used for closing and handling, for example, liquids and gas. In order for the valve to close completely tightly, the valve is equipped with a flexible diaphragm, usually made of elastomer and often reinforced with a metal part. When the piston in the valve closes all the way down to the diaphragm up against the valve seat, the valve becomes completely tight.

A diaphragm valve is used e.g., in water and wastewater systems, biotechnological processes, surface treatment, chemical manufacturing, homogenisation, food production, beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, the sugar industry and process engineering.

The diaphragm valve is versatile and suitable for handling several types of aggressive chemistry and handles clear thin liquids as well as liquids with a higher viscosity and low-pressure applications. The inner parts of the diaphragm valve are isolated from the liquid flow. This makes this valve suitable for viscous and aggressive media, but also for abrasive and corrosive liquids, as there is no contamination to or from the environment.

For example, it is compatible with:

  • Inorganic liquids
  • Steam
  • Distillate
  • Gas
  • Liquids that pose a health hazard
  • Toxic liquids
  • High-temperature hot water
  • Corrosive liquids
  • Valuable liquids
  • Volatile liquids
  • Solvents
  • Oil
  • Organic liquids
  • Polymerising/crystallising liquids
  • Radioactive liquids
  • Cleaning products

Diaphragm valves are most often made of either stainless steel for sanitary processes or plastics such as polypropylene, PVC or PVDF for industrial processes. The design itself consists of a valve body with two or more ports, a diaphragm and a seat, on which the diaphragm can close tightly thus closing the valve.

Diaphragm valves are available with both full and reduced clearance. The diaphragm is available in different sizes and materials depending on what your process requires. Our valves are available with diaphragms made of, for example, EPDM, TFE or PTFE, and the different diaphragm types of the same size can be replaced without having to replace additional components.

Diaphragm valves can be controlled by different types of actuators, e.g. manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, etc. However, many diaphragm valves are also controlled manually.

With a diaphragm valve, you can block or allow flow quickly. This is especially useful if you want to be able to shut off pipe systems with liquid or gas that has moderate pressures and temperatures – it can be as high as 20 bar and 160°C.

Diaphragm valves with long-lasting solution

Do you work in the chemical industry, with water supply, wastewater treatment, fire fighting, gas supply or other industrial installations? Then a diaphragm valve from our selection will definitely be suitable for you.

For demanding tasks and aggressive media, it is important that your equipment is completely in order. Therefore, all diaphragm valves from Alflow are type approved.

In addition, they meet industrial requirements in relation to use, hygiene, environment and service friendliness. At the same time, this means that our diaphragm valves are easy to service.

You can choose to have the valve delivered with the current certificates, which are suitable for several industries. For example, certificates such as:

  • FDA
  • 3A
  • USP Class VI
  • ATEX
  • Etc.

At Alflow, we also want to supply the best valves on the market. You can see this, e.g., by the fact that our models are extremely durable, as they are produced in the most suitable material in terms of application possibilities.

By purchasing valves from Alflow, you get a long-lasting solution. We have a wide selection of diaphragm valves – including 2-way diaphragm valves, sampling valves, tank-bottom valves and valves for complicated process systems.

Our diaphragm valves with one seat are available as simple one-way valves (2-way valve housing) and as T or Y valves (3-way valve housing). They have a unique placement of the diaphragm in the valve, which ensures a long service life.

The diaphragm valve also ensures an improved process, as no tension is applied to the diaphragm itself. The valve body is moulded and machined with welded ends or Triclamp connection, and the valve has a very compact actuator that makes separation from the valve body very easy. From DN25, the diaphragm is supported by a spring, so that the actuator pressure is distributed over the entire surface.

Our sampling valve is an aseptic diaphragm seat valve of high sanitary standard for sampling. It is made in 100% flush design, giving excellent aseptic performance. The valve has no dead zones and is easy to clean, while being simple and efficient to maintain with few spare parts.

Our tank-bottom valves are available as aseptic tank-bottom diaphragm seat valves of high sanitary standard designed for sanitary processes. They are made in 100% drainable design, and thus there no dead zones in the tank bottom. They are also available in a design for mounting on the tank wall for sampling.

The process valves are aseptic diaphragm seat valves of high sanitary standard for complicated process systems and aseptic processes. With the process valves it is possible to design pipe systems without dead zones. They are also extremely easy to clean, while maintenance is simple and efficient with few spare parts.

Our plastic diaphragm valves for chemical and industrial plants can be manufactured in PVC, C-PVC, PP or PVDF up to size DN 600, and thanks to the flat flange bottom, are easy to handle and install.

Our industrial diaphragm valve comes in a manual version (with handwheel). By default, the diaphragm valve has a built-in visual indicator that clearly shows whether the valve is open or closed. The diaphragm valve has a water and dustproof mechanism that prevents water and dust from penetrating. It is also resistant to pressure produced in materials that have high corrosion resistance. This means longer service life of the actual valve.

Did you know that we also offer thorough servicing of valves? With a diaphragm valve from our range, your pipe systems are thus ensured reliable operation and close fit in both directions – both at high and low temperatures.
