Shut-off valves

Sanitary and industrial shut-off valves to control and adjust the flow and shut off gases or liquids in pipe systems.

Shut-off valves

With a shut-off valve, you can control and regulate or shut off the flow of a liquid or gas in a simple way. Explore our different shut-off valves on this page.

Shut-off valve: control and shut-off

Both ball valves and butterfly valves belong to the type of shut-off valves that control and adjust the flow in pipe systems. You will find them in water and waste-water systems, offshore, the pharmaceutical industry, the food industry as well as in the agricultural and fishing industry.

Butterfly valves are most often made of either metal or plastic such as polypropylene, cast iron, stainless steel and bronze for marine applications. The design itself consists of a valve body and a disc, usually located in the center of the body with a cast-in stem. A seal, also called a liner, is inserted between the valve body and disc, which can be made of an elastomer material such as NBR, EPDM, FKM or silicone.

In order to stop the flow, a handle has been set for manual operation. By turning the valve a quarter turn, it goes from open to closed position or vice versa. In addition, the handle can also be pneumatically or electrically controlled if you want automatic operation.

With a butterfly valve, you can block or allow flow quickly. It is particularly useful if you want to be able to shut off pipe systems with liquid that have moderate pressures and temperatures – this can be as high as 16 bar and 120°C. Another clear advantage is the simple design and the low weight. If you compare with valves such as ball valves and hose valves, the price is often also lower.

Ball valves are manufactured in stainless steel, acid-resistant steel or plastic and are available, among other things, as manual, electric, automatic or pneumatic ball valves. Ball valves are available as both 2-way valves and 3-way valves.

A ball valve is one of the most used valves. The advantage of a ball valve is that it can shut off most media under both vacuum and pressure. Contrary to solenoid valves, which are not tight when they come into contact with chemical liquids and gases, or if there is a difference in pressure, a ball valve can help to cope with the task – thanks to the simple and solid construction.

The ball valve is made up of a valve body with hydraulic connections and gaskets. It seals the flow of liquids and gases with a ball that has a pierced hole. The small ball can have either two or three holes, so you can decide for yourself how the flow should be. In this way, the ball valve achieves an optimal and efficient way of regulating the flow, as it can itself determine which liquids and gases should not be in the flow.

Thanks to the small ball in the valve, it can precisely regulate, open or close the flow of various media. Other shut-off valves may not offer the same seal as our ball valve, so an Alflow ball valve may be right for you if you want the best result. As mentioned, you can use a ball valve under vacuum and pressure. This means that if you work with chemically aggressive media, our ball valves in good materials are obvious to use in large and small installations.
